Salt Pans Ultra | Botswana

30th September

In it’s third year, the Salt Pans Ultra is already being described as a bucket list trail ultra. Presenting two distances with 50kms and 100kms races you can choose how much pain you want to take on. The routes are entirely on and around the epic, awe inspiring and humbling Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the second largest salt pans in the World.

100 KM ULTRA

The Salt Pans Ultra 100 race starts on the edge of Sua Pan beneath an escarpment that marks the ancient lake’s Southern shore line. Your route takes you across the middle of the Pans where you marvel at your solitude. You will pass flamingo nesting sites and enjoy a rest at Kukonje Island. The last half of the route sees you weave from land to pans and back again as you run across a large spit that projects into the vast emptiness.

50 KM ULTRA

The early morning start will allow runners to enjoy the amazing clarity of Botswana’s night sky. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, will be as clear as anywhere on earth so take the time to enjoy it.  On the way to Check Point Bravo you will also marvel at the dawn of new day. The early morning light will unveil your surroundings and the vastness of your solitude.
